The CLV Young Designer Award 2024 marked a significant milestone in CLV Glasstech’s commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation within Malaysia’s design industry. Held in Kuala Lumpur under the theme Reflection of Creativity, the inaugural competition provided a platform for emerging designers to explore the artistic and functional potential of glass through original furniture concepts.
As Malaysia’s first dedicated glass furniture design competition, the event brought together young talents who challenged conventional design thinking and showcased how glass can be transformed into expressive, practical, and inspiring design solutions. Hosted at iN Design Lab, the competition reflected CLV Glasstech’s vision of expanding the role of glass beyond traditional applications and into the future of contemporary living.
"Our goal is to inspire new ways of thinking about glass and mirrors," said Josh Chew, COO of CLV Group of Companies. "These materials offer limitless opportunities for creativity, allowing designers to shape spaces that are both functional and visually captivating."
The competition featured ten outstanding design concepts from aspiring designers, each presenting a unique interpretation of glass as a design medium. Entries ranged from modular furniture systems and artistic statement pieces to sustainability-driven innovations, highlighting the versatility and creative potential of glass in modern furniture design.
A distinguished panel of judges comprising industry professionals and design leaders evaluated the submissions based on creativity, innovation, practicality, and conceptual strength. The competition concluded with awards presented across four categories, recognising exceptional achievements in design excellence.
Beyond the competition itself, attendees were invited to experience a curated showcase of specialty glass materials and applications, offering deeper insight into the possibilities of glass within contemporary architecture and interior design.
